i won the lottery…

August 30, 2009

…no i didn’t, but i did get your attention.

but i did win a giveaway to Soi-Meme:  The Independent Eco-Friendly  Bridal Salon.

soi-meme event invite

not only did i get to see beautiful dresses, cakes, invites, favors, and decor, as well as sit in workshops and get some great ideas on how to be more eco-friendly with weddings and events, but i think for me as a newbie blogger, was to actually meet some of the people i follow on twitter.  it was such a great way to network and hopefully i’ll get to meet up with all these wonderfully creative people again.

without further ado, here are some pictures courtesy of Jen O’ Sullivan (who i semi-met without realizing it was her!)

the event took place in the James Irvine Japanese Garden. a very quaint, but definitely cute site for an intimate wedding.

Mendy Pound of “Cakes By The Pound” showed off her cakes that she personally hand paints and you can’t really see this, but the orange flower is in fact made out of sugar!  so talented!

soi-meme cake

i got to briefly meet event planner Paige Anderson Appel of Bash Eco Events, along with Stephanie Elhayani of Seed Floral, an event and floral designer.

soi-meme3

as a gift, each of the girls gave a little something to us.  Paige, intelligently, gave bridal emergency kits which included band-aids, bobby pins, safety pins and kleenexes, of course.

soi-meme5

Stephanie gave away succulents as a really cute party favor.  i am proudly displaying mine on my kitchen counter.

soi-meme4

event coordinator, Arley Ann Laman of Event Me! was there as well.  do NOT let her look intimidate you.  this girl can crank out a beautifully classy wedding or one that just rocks ‘n’ rolls.

soi-meme6

Nailah Blades of Safiya Beauty with beautifully scented lotions, candles, and gift baskets that you can personalize if you wanted to.

soi-meme7

BBJ Linen with some gorgeous prints for making tables pop.

soi-meme14

Wisteria Lane was there as well with gorgeous flowers.  my favorite was definitely the one with the callo lilies.

soi-meme13

there were also stunning wedding gowns on display as well by Lindee Daniel of Puridee.

soi-meme9

next was Wiley Valentine, an invite design team which includes Rachelle and Emily that has their own inhouse letterpress!

the next two ladies are pretty inspirational.  Tracy Helper and Lauren Johanson of Your Daily Thread were there to help brides be more “green”.  you will definitely need to check out their website! they give you advice everyday on how to be more environmentally friendly.

soi-meme12

there were also THE most helpful workshops where the vendors were asked questions and were able to talk about event planning as well as ideas of being more eco-friendly at weddings.

sarah shewey of pink cloud events (the organizer of soi-meme), paige from bash eco events, and arley from event me! were most definitely helpful with their suggestions and advice.

i was also able to go to a workshop by the amazine do-it-yourself-er, Justine Blackeney of Compai.  unfortunately, don’t have a picture but definitely definitely go to her site and check out the books that she has published and so many ways to reuse your old clothes.  you can make your own style of t-shirt, denim, bag with all the suggestions that she has.  totally unique and creative.

also not pictured is Broke Ass Bride, Dana LaRue.  she’s basically a “celebrity” in the wedding blogging world and was super excited that she was there.  she also promoted her new project:  Bride$hare.  so definitely check it out, future brides who want to be “green” and save money!

additionally, i met Kelley Lee Gin of Picture Perfect Event and hopefully i’ll get a chance to be able to help her out with future events.  but i think one of my favorite moments was when the smiling woman sitting behind me introduced herself as “Jo” as in jomygoodness.  i was super excited since i’m an avid reader of her blog.  i can’t wait to get tips from her and just learn more in general about the wedding industry from a blogger’s point of view!

this has been a rather long post.  but i’m extremely thankful i got to go to this event, and for free as well!  not only do i have lots of goodies, but i got to learn how to be more conscientious of being more environmentally friendly AND i am so glad i got to meet these people and network as well.  thanks to Pink Cloud Events for organizing this and to Sarah for such a great job.

once again, photos are courtesy of Jen O’Sullivan so don’t forget to check her amazing work out.
